Dust mites are members of the arachnid family and are so small they are invisible to the human eye. They prefer to live in warm humid conditions in bedding carpets and upholstery. Attracted to carbon dioxide, they feed on flakes of human skin, which we continually shed. This means that, as we spend a third of our time in bed, they will be found in their highest concentrations in pillows, mattresses and fabric headboards. As the dust mites feed they leave excrement which becomes aerosolized and it is this which causes the allergic reactions leading to symptoms such as:

• Feeling of a permanent cold
• Headache or earache
• Blocked stuffy nose
• Sleep disturbance and snoring
• Constant sore throat and runny nose
• Loss of taste or smell
• Lack of concentration

QDis spray is a hospital grade surface disinfectant, which supports the inhibition of dust mite reproductive cycles in conjunction with regular vacumming. It is alcohol free, odourless, colourless and colourfast so it is safe to use on any water resistant surface without fear of staining or crazing of plastics.

First clean the mattress with a vacuum cleaner fitted with a HEPA filter, then apply QDis lightly to the mattress and all soft furnishing such as bedding, curtains, toys, fabric upholstered furniture and headboards. Moisten fabrics so that they dry within 10 minutes and this should provide enough protection to last 6 weeks. Following this cycle will mean that a 500ml bottle of QDis should last for roughly 5 months. Studies have shown that a cleaning programme which includes an application of QDis can drastically reduce exposure to dust mite allergens potentially leaving you symptom free and able to reduce or even stop taking medication.

As QDis kills bacteria and odour causing bacteria, when sprayed on to furnishing, it can also help to remove unpleasant odours.

Some general good advice to help avoid exposure to dust mite allergens:

• Replace carpets and rugs with linoleum or laminate flooring
• Use blinds instead of curtains and clean them often
• Less ornaments means less surfaces for dust to gather
• Use synthetic pillows and duvets with anti-dust mite covers
• Use anti-dust mite mattress protector
• Vacuum fitted with a HEPA filter is recommended
• Wash bedding at 60^oC
• Avoid fabric headboards
• Leather, plastic or wood furniture are best, not fabric
• Regularly air your bedroom and reduce humidity

Following the above guidance could negate the need for an inhibiter like QDis. However, not everyone can afford the expensive mattress protectors and the cheaper versions are often not breathable and therefore make for an uncomfortable nights sleep. If you are unable to change your carpet flooring, curtains and fabric upholstery then a regular vacuuming programme followed by an application of QDis can help reduce your exposure to dust mite allergens.

Available as a re-usable bottle and cartridge system, QDis is inexpensive to deliver and safe to use. At no point should you come into contact with the concentrated disinfectant solution.

Directions for use:-
Fill the spray bottle with 500 ml of water up to the mark. Insert 5 ml cartridge into the bottle neck. To mount the trigger, put the trigger tube through the central opening of the cartridge and turn the trigger screw tightly until it "clicks", then give a quick shake.

Spray the disinfectant on all sides and surfaces evenly. Observe sufficient contact time to take effect. Moisten fabric, carpets, pillows etc. so that the textile feels dry after about 10 minutes, take care not to moisten too much.
When reusing the spray bottle, first rinse out the bottle before a new cartridge is placed into the bottle neck. Do not mix with other reagents otherwise the disinfecting effect may be reduced or eliminated.
